Vi har träffat kvinnor som känt sig stämplade av att kallas ’prostituerade’. De har uttryckligen lidit av att prostitutionen (d v s något de gör), i andra människors ögon, helt och hållet definierat vilka de är, d v s deras identitet. Vi har därför valt att, i våra kontakter med dessa personer, aldrig använda ordet ’prostituerad’. Ordet förekommer därför inte heller i denna eller någon annan av våra texter. Istället har vi valt att använda uttrycket ’kvinnor (och män) i prostitution’.

Observera att vi behandlar situationen för kvinnor i prostitution i Sverige d v s ett västerländskt industrialiserat land. Slutsatserna hade förmodligen varit något annorlunda om vårat fokus varit kvinnor i prostitution i utvecklingsländer.
